The Agatina Villa

During the ‘Belle Epoque’ there was another important phase, beginning in 1918 and ending in 1928, which transformed Montecatini into one of the most light-hearted and fashionable thermal spas. Among the buildings in Liberty style which it is still possible to admire today, we must certainly mention “Villa Agatina” situated in Viale Giacomo Puccini number 67, which Count Giustiniani from Ferrara had built.

The neo-Renaissance architecture, with the airy open gallery of the first floor resting on a frame of Ionic pillars interlinked with Tuscan pillars, is enhanced by the refined white stuccoes, by the balustrade in wrought iron of the small balcony, by the bands of polychromatic resplendent tiles and by the railings with daisy motifs.

The villa preserves intact three splendid, bright stained-glass windows, one positioned at the entrance, one inside and one window on the landing of the stairs which lead to the first floor. The windows, with Klimtian and floral motifs, were realized with great craftsmanship by the San Lorenzo Furnaces from a design by Galileo Chini.
